Integrating Social Media With Your Business

We have had many of our clients tell us they want to integrate social media into their websites. Everyone else is doing it, so our clients assume that they should as well.

We agree completely, but with one caveat:

Social Media requires constant attention. If you are not able to make the commitment to continually produce new content to post on your social media pages, you are better served without them. Few things look as bad as a twitter feed that has not been update for 3 months!

With that said, it can be time well spent in promoting your business. Here’s how:

1. Increased Brand Awareness

Social media sites act as a kind of word of mouth. By attracting the attention of potential clients, you encourage them to spread the word within their own social networks. Because the information about your business is getting repeated, more traffic is brought to your company.

2. Multiple Ways to Reach Your Website

Having people follow you on Facebook or Twitter, link to an article your wrote, talk about a promotion you are having, or any other possible connection means other people are seeing what was posted, and they can trace it back to you. Social media drives traffic towards your website by providing multiple avenues for a potential client to get there.

3. No Barrier to Entry

Anyone can create an account and take advantage of social networks.

4. Inexpensive Way to Market

Most social media sites are free—all you have to do is invest the time in getting set up and keeping up to date with new content. They are perfect for advertising specials, providing more information about your services, or keeping your clients up to date on new developments in your business.

5. Allow for Direct Interaction with Clients

Social media sites give you a voice that makes you appear more ‘real’ to a potential client. It is a way to interact with peers, clients and potential clients by giving them the opportunity to provide feedback, make comments and share their own information directly with you. The social media site personalizes your “brand” and help you to spread your message in a relaxed and conversational way.

So, if you are interested in having social media be a part of your marketing strategy, know that it is a lot of work, but can be a very effective way to market your business. Make sure that the content you are posting on your social media sites is valuable to potential clients. Remember that traffic generated through social media can ensure that people find your site, but high-quality content ensures they return.
